Oriki, (Praise poem), a Yoruba verbal art form. Oriki tells us about a lineage's history, accomplishments, gods, profession, and behavior, as well as their strengths, weaknesses, challenges, and goals. The oriki of a lineage belongs to everyone who is born into that lineage. Each Yoruba family has its own oriki, which is the most endangered form. Even though Oriki is frequently referred to as Praise poetry, some of it is hardly flattering; nevertheless, it encodes the ancestral identity of a lineage and the characteristics that its members share. Oriki is a cultural legacy that cannot be replaced.
Within the family, women have
long been the creators, performers, and transmitters of this great poetic art
form. Women were required to memorize the lengthy Oriki of their husbands'
lineages as newlyweds, and as participants and observers in these families
throughout their lives, they also added to it.
Teefran are part of a typical
Yoruba culture that is extremely fond of Oriki. Make sure everyone in the Egba
