Oriki tells us about a lineage's history, accomplishments, gods, profession, and behavior, as well as their strengths, weaknesses, challenges, and goals. The oriki of a lineage belongs to everyone who is born into that lineage. Each Yoruba family has its own oriki, which is the most endangered form. Even though Oriki is frequently referred to as Praise poetry, some of it is hardly flattering; nevertheless, it encodes the ancestral identity of a lineage and the characteristics that its members share.
